Brian came to St Basils as a young person 7 years ago when he was 18 and has since achieved a number of personal goals; Brian finished college and was accepted into the University of Northampton to study Geography at bachelor degree level, from there he went on to study Urban Geography at master degree level at the University of Amsterdam.
He is currently in the process of writing his thesis on how a homelessness charity contributes to a young homeless persons meaning of home. He believes that there is a unique opportunity for society and policy to challenge the juxtaposition of home and homelessness and to learn how young homeless people understand and construct home. Which he believes may identify a variety of opportunities for policy to create suitable housing options for young people in an increasingly bleak housing pathway environment for young people.
‘I have sincerely enjoyed my time back at St Basils. It has been a bit of an emotional and historical confrontation at times but to come back and hopefully inspire, and to certainly be inspired has been an amazing experience. I really believe that St Basils is integral in the fight against youth homelessness, not just in Birmingham but the whole of the UK, and the way they work with young people is nothing short of amazing.’
We wish Brian the best of luck with completing his thesis and look forward to reading his findings!
