Youth Voice members participated in a training programme called ‘My Strengths Training’ (MST) delivered by The University of Birmingham School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Science department. Dr Mary Quinton, Richard Whiting and Ben Parry facilitated the session with 11 Youth Voice members, with the aim of supporting Youth Voice members to develop mental skills that can be used in every day life, stressful situations and Youth Voice events. They focused on resilience, confidence and self esteem, debating and negotiating skills; all underpinned by psychological theoretical research developed by the team.
Youth Voice members enjoyed the training and have come away with tools to help develop their mindsets and focus on positive aspects of their lives, allowing them to change or ‘bounce back’ from more negative experiences.
An excellent session, well done to both University of Birmingham and Youth Voice members!
